Series: Meeting Readers of "Before I Got Pregnant"

I Have A Plan, or: Reading Women In Paris
My book about my time as a woman with fertility problems was published in my country, Hungary.
Now, a few years later, I decided to re-edit it in English with the title
Before I Got Pregnant
for the rest of the world.
I had my doubts: Is the rest of the world interested in my story?
I googled the Hungarian title and found a few of my used books  to sell. I had this great idea: I should meet some of the book resellers in Budapest and check, if they liked my story.
I wanted to ask them: What was their story?

I will share with you some of these meetings with my readers here on the blog.

How my personal life became a novel

When I was 7 years old, I wanted to be a writer, when I grew up.
But my parents said, it would be impossible, we were not a family of academics. I believed it, and I didn’t become a writer.

When I was 27 years old, I wanted to be a mother
But I didn’t got pregnant and the doctor ordered medications and treatments.

The treatments didn’t help me.
That was a terrible time. I couldn’t believe, that I maybe never would have children.
I couldn’t accept it.
I started to write my journey to see it clearly.
I started to share my thoughts with other women handling fertility problems.
I’m glad, to have gotten so much help and effort from these women.
I was also proud of myself, not be broken on my personal difficulties, but to grow from it. Something, that could have killed me, actually made me stronger.

The medical treatment couldn’t help me, but some day,
I conceived  naturally.
We had a beautiful baby girl !
The next year, my book was published in Hungary.
Later, we had a baby boy !
And when both of our children were in kindergarten,
I started to think about, what to do next with my life.

I learned English and translated my story.
I hope, I can reach more women, than in my little country.
I would be proud, if I would be able to help of some of them.

Difficulty in conceiving?– Help from role model Audrey Hepburn

If you have problems with getting pregnant, you should know: You are not alone!
10 or 15 percent of couples have the same problem.
You don’t know anybody, who has the similar difficulties as you? That doesn't mean, that nobody has it. They just don’t speak about it.
Did you know, that Audrey Hepburn was one of the women with infertility problems?

á la "Roman holiday" :)

As I read, she conceived quickly, during her honeymoon.
But she lost her baby. And later, she couldn’t get pregnant
again for a long time. Five years later she did it, but she
had a miscarriage again.
But in 1960, she gave birth to her son Sean,
a healthy and big baby. She was 30 years old,
not exactly as a young mother at that time.
She divorced, and remarried. She was 40,
when her second son Luca was born.

I read a book about her life during my time
as a woman with infertility problems.
It gave me a lot. I hope, this short message
will give you too some positive thoughts!
